Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award and the Albert A. Michelson Award

Background

Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award honors a leader of industry who has made a major contribution to our nation’s maritime strength and/or enhanced our national security. In selecting the Nimitz Award recipient, the committee will select the person that best exemplifies the leadership, statesmanship and dedication to our country that was exhibited by the award’s namesake, Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.

Nimitz Award Nomination Form

Albert A. Michelson Award honors a civilian scientist, technical innovator or technical organization for scientific or technical achievement that results in a significant improvement in the strength of our maritime forces or to the enhancement of our industrial technology base. In selecting the Michelson Award recipient, the committee will give consideration to single event contributions, such as inventions and technological innovations, or long-term scientific development work.

Selection and Award Presentation
Nomination Packages will be reviewed and evaluated by a distinguished committee appointed by the National President of the Navy League. The committee will have the challenge of selecting the “best of the best” among civilian leaders. The winners will be honored in front of an audience of senior military leaders and their industry peers at the Sea-Air-Space Luncheon on Wednesday, April 18th, 2012, at the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. The invited keynote speaker is General James Amos, Commandant, United States Marine Corps. Winners are expected to accept the award in person on April 18th, 2012.

Immediately following the close of Sea-Air-Space 2011, the Navy League began a 90-Day Review process to cover every aspect of the exposition, from venue logistics to the quality and quantity of attendees.

The Navy League of the United States has partnered with Gold Member Clarion Events to participate at DSEi (Defence & Security Equipment International) in London, September 2013. DSEi is the world’s largest fully integrated defense and security exhibition. The 2013 show will feature a dedicated Navy League of the United States Maritime Pavilion for U.S. Naval suppliers and manufacturers. Member companies which have participated in the Sea Air Space Exposition in Washington, D.C. understand the benefits of showcasing your products and services. DSEi brings enhanced visibility to an overseas marketplace. The 2011 DSEi exhibition featured 1,391 exhibiting companies representing 46 countries and included 30 national pavilions making this the largest DSEi ever.
