May 2011 – The Navy League Atlanta Metropolitan Council held its 18th Annual Youth Awards Banquet on May 5 at the Doubletree Hotel in Marietta, Ga.
The JROTC awards were presented by Council President, Frank Campbell and the Sea Cadet William T. Schwendler Award for Excellence was presented by Campbell and William T. Schwendler, Jr. President Frank Campbell coordinated the dinner and was master of ceremonies.
Cadet LCDR Stephen Sasscer, Allatoona High School NJROTC, was selected from 47 nominees as the 2011 JROTC Award winner. C/Petty Officer 3rd Class, NSCC Ansley Odell from 2745th Seabee Battalion, Lassiter High School, was awarded the Councils’ 11th Annual Sea Cadet award.
C/LTCOL Taylor Dedrick, Heritage High School MCJROTC and C/CDR Jared Loggins, McEachern High School NJROTC tied as runners-up in the JROTC competition. C/GYSGT Brandon Jones, Lithia Springs MCJROTC; C/LCDR Katherine Narvaez, Cross Keys NJROTC; C/LCDR Hayley Camp, North Cobb NJROTC and C/CAPT Chris House, Newton County MCJROTC received honorable mention.
C/CPO William Heinzel Pathfinders Squadron, Northgate High School, and C/CPO Sean Purcell 233rd Construction BN, Tucker High School, tied for runners-up in the Sea Cadet competition. C/PO3 Ashley Weifenbach, Columbus Ironclad Division, East Coweta High School, received Honorable Mention.
The 7th Annual Jason E. Lawson Trophy for Outstanding Sea Cadet Unit 2011 was awarded to 2745th
Seabee Battalion Commanded by LT Brian Fleming NSCC.
