May 2011 – The Navy League Thailand Eastern Seaboard Council, in Pattaya, Thailand hosted a group of sailors for the CARAT 2011 event in May. CARAT is a series of bilateral exercises between navies held each year in Southeast Asia.
CARAT events included a reception, sports day, concerts, outdoor cooking competition and COMSERVE project at a local Thai school. The Navy League reception on Friday, May 13th included officers from all ships involved in CARAT 2011. During the reception, Navy League Thailand Eastern Seaboard Council adopted the HTMS NARESUAN and recognized her Sailor of the 2nd quarter and the Blue Jacket of the 2nd quarter. Similar honors were presented for USS TORTUGA. The concerts were performed by the Royal Thai Marine Band and the United States 7th Fleet band, the Orient Express and were greatly enjoyed by the local Thai and expat community.
The council would like to thank the Director of CARAT 2011, Rear Admiral Chaiyos Suntornnak, and his Chief of Staff, 2nd Frigate Squadron, Captain Kosit, for securing concerts with the Thai and U.S. bands as well as Council President, Mr. Peter Thorand, for working to bring together the Thailand navy and the U.S. Navy in the spirit of cooperation and good will.
