Need a Navy speaker for your official event?
An official event is defined as one at which a naval officer or sailor or civilian employee speaks to an appropriate public or private forum sponsored by a federal, state or municipal government, professional or technical association, or social or service organization. Other criteria that applies:
- There can be no conflict of interest, commercial endorsement or benefit;
- May not be political activity;
- The occasion must be open to the general public; the event sponsor must not discriminate against anyone attending on the basis of race, creed, or national origin;
- Event must be open to all service members, depending on the availability of time and financing;
- Event can not be a fund-raising event.
Following are a few examples of official events:
- A Navy commander gives a briefing on "Navy Strategy" to 45 graduate students on campus;
- A rear admiral addresses a combined meeting of the Navy League of the United States, Rotary and Chamber of Commerce in a large city, with an audience of 125 and speaks about "Navy Forward Presence."
- A Navy captain gives a motivational speech based on personal experience to employees of a medium-sized manufacturer.
