Barcelona Council News
Greetings fellow Navy Leaguers and Friends.... Our February E-News starts out with our announcement of the new Board for 2008. At the Annual General Meeting of NLUS Barcelona Council, held on January 24th, the following persons were nominated to fill positions on the Board of Directors:

Salvador Molist, Master at Arms
Pepe García-Reyes, Member at Large
We congratulate these brave souls and thank them for their dedication to NLUS in steering us to success in 2008. Their sharing of their knowledge and expertise to improve NLUS Barcelona Council is greatly appreciated. They can always use help, and we are constantly on the look-out for people to lend a hand, so anyone interested please drop us a note at barcelonanlus@gmail.com.
At the AGM, a recapitulation of last year´s activity was given. This will be formatted into our President´s report, that will be available online very soon. We welcomed four new guests to the Council, and reconfirmed our schedule of presentations that will follow our monthly Board meetings on the fourth Wednesday of every month, which are open to all. US Navy Visits our home port: On January 10th, the USS Porter docked at Barcelona and enjoyed shoreleave until January 14th. Specifics of the vessel, a U.S. Navy destroyer, can be found online at the Barcelona Council website, http://www.nlbcn.org/USSPorter.html

Royal Asamblea de Capitanes de Yates and the Royal Liga Naval: We are happy to announce, and encourage our members and friends to attend, the upcoming event sponsored by the RAECY and the Liga Naval Española, where Coronel de Infantería de Marina don Luis Solá,will speak on amphibious operations. He will touch upon the history of these maneuvres and his experience which qualified him to graduate suma cum laude from the ULB in Paris.

Tentatively scheduled for April 10th, RAECY will kick off their series of conferences in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of Independence (also referred to the Peninsular War). American Society Happy Hour
Join the American Society for their monthly Happy Hour, scheduled for February 20th, 21h00, Pomarada, Paseo de Gracia, 78, Principal (Metro stop Paseo de Gracia). More information at the American Society website, www.amersoc.com.
The American Society is also hosting their annual Calçotada on February 24th. This year, they´ll be heading south for a visit to the Royal Monastery of Santes Creus, one of the largest and best-preserved Cistercian monasteries that can be visited in the present day, followed by lunch with delectable calçots. And finally, also from the American Society, a chance for an intimate dinner-tasting event of tasty Basque and Catalan cuisine. Scheduled for March 1st.
