Navy League plans Nimitz Council in Fredericksburg, TX
The Navy League of the United States is forming a new council -- to be known as the Fleet Admiral Nimitz Council -- in recognition of the strong ties of the Hill Country to the Naval Services.
A charter meeting to formally organize the council will soon be announced.
Fredericksburg is home to the National Museum of the Pacific War, Admiral Nimitz Foundation, Fredericksburg High School Naval Junior ROTC and is also the birthplace of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, United States Navy, Commander-in-Chief, Pacific, during World War II and General Michael Hagee, United States Marine Corps, recently the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
The Hill Country is also home to hundreds of veteran and retired sea services men and women.
The Navy League was founded in 1902 with a clear two-pronged mission: to support the members of the Sea Services and their families; and to educate the American people and their elected leaders about the critical importance of sea power for their economic prosperity and national security. The four Sea Services are the United States Navy, the United States Marine Corps, The United States Coast Guard and the United States Flag Merchant Marine.
Veterans are invited to join the league along with business people, families of those in the sea services, families of cadets and midshipmen, along with any interested citizens.
Anyone wishing to become a member or be placed on the council’s mailing list is asked to contact Sam Sorenson, National Director Emeritus, NLUS at (830)992-3136 or by email at hlznmz3@sisna.com.
