The Navy League is proud to launch its official Capital Campaign to raise
$57 million for the new, state-of-the-art headquarters building being
built on a prime site in Arlington, Va., just outside of Washington, D.C.,
and less than two miles from the Pentagon.
The design for the modern seven-story structure, Navy League National
President Sheila M. McNeill said, “is indicative of the organization’s
forward direction and dedication to its cause — supporting the nation’s
sea services and a strong national defense program.” In addition
to providing “much more efficient and productive working spaces”
for the NLUS staff, McNeill said the new building “will generate
a steady stream of future revenue that can be used to support Navy League
programs, both local and national, for many years to come.” Most
of that revenue will be generated by leasing space on the ground floor
for retail shops and restaurants and on the upper floors for offices.
To start the Capital Campaign, Development Committee Chairperson, Connie
O’Shaughnessy-Los suggests, “We need 4 by 4.” That means
the Navy League hopes to generate at least $4 million in 2004 to help
kick off this five-year campaign. “This high-visibility building
will provide an outstanding opportunity for naming recognition of financial
leaders,” O’Shaughnessy-Los said. In addition to the naming
opportunities, the Navy League is proud to announce an exclusive opportunity
for individuals and Navy League Councils to permanently inscribe their
name, or the name of someone they wish to honor, on the Honor Wall.
The design of the building, McNeill said, “also reflects the qualities
of spirit, strength, and vitality that are principal characteristics of
the U.S. sea services themselves — the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps,
U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine — and of the fine
young men and women in all of the nation’s armed services who so
proudly wear our country’s uniform today. Every color, curve, fabric,
and stone of the building is designed to serve as a spiritual and physical
reflection of their dedication to duty and to country.”
“We need those supporters who believe in the mission of the Navy
League to step up to the plate,” states O’Shaughnessy-Los.
All contributions to the Capital Campaign will help ensure a solid financial
base to support Navy League operations for the future.
