The
May Seapower cover story on short-sea shipping should have said
it is the cargo being offloaded at a port that is subject to
the Domestic Harbor Maintenance Tax, not the ship itself.
The
surface effect ship concept discussed in the May article “Joint
High Speed Vessels Offer New Dimension to U.S. Forces” should
have described it as a vessel with side hulls and flexible seals
at the bow and stern, with the air cushion being provided by
vertical fans in the side hulls, or, in older craft, in the bow
and stern rigid structures.
A
Navy League News item on the New York Council’s 103rd anniversary
dinner in the May issue should have said Dorothy England, wife
of Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon R. England and sponsor
of the New York (LPD-21), was unable to attend.
