NATIONAL PRESIDENT'S NOTE

Fellow Navy Leaguer,

We want to express our gratitude to the brave men and women of the sea services who are fighting the war against COVID-19, especially during May, when we celebrate National Military Appreciation Month. They are working tirelessly to support the American people during this crisis.

Some of us may be stuck at home for a while yet, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop supporting them in their efforts. I encourage councils and individuals to continue to seek ways you can assist the sea services while also following local government procedures.

We remain hopeful that we’ll all go back to doing what we love at full capacity in the future. For now, serve how you can and keep yourself safe.

Best regards,

Bill

Bill Stevenson
National President

Daytona Beach Council
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daytona Beach Council held its annual presentation of the Vice Adm. Wilkinson Sword outside the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University ROTC Building, while maintaining social distancing. This year, Midshipman Nicholas Sorrell received the prestigious award for his hard work in the ROTC. He is currently awaiting his orders to flight school to become a Navy pilot. Sea Cadet Sierra Desmond, a seventh-grade honor student, presented Sorrell with the sword.

Denver Council
In early April, Rocky Mountain Regional President Steve Kelly took a call from the Heather Grove Veterans Home, requesting cloth face masks for their 50 residents. Several members from the Denver Council, notably Florence Mackin and Jane Zurliene, immediately volunteered to construct and ship what totaled over 70 washable cloth face masks. Within the week, these masks were delivered to the doorstep of the Denver-based facility. This outreach saved the home over $500 in non-budgeted funds that would have adversely impacted their conservative food budget.

Honolulu Council
The Honolulu Council recently postponed its 2nd Indo-Pacific Maritime Security Exchange until the event can be executed safely. Please stay tuned for more information about its return.

Marin Council
The Marin Council held a virtual council meeting on May 15 with Lt. Cmdr. Amanda Le Monde, executive officer, USCG Pacific Strike Team, as guest speaker.
