Navy League St. Louis: August and September 2024

Navy League St. Louis Honors Scotty Wirtz at Memorial Golf Tournament and Welcomes New Members

On September 7th, Navy League St. Louis proudly sponsored a hole and a foursome at the Scotty Wirtz Memorial Golf Tournament. Scotty, a Navy SEAL and DIA officer, embodied the true spirit of service and sacrifice. His memory continues to inspire us all, and this tournament was a heartfelt tribute to his life and legacy.

Scott “Scotty” Andrew Wirtz, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, was tragically killed in action on January 16, 2019, at the age of 42, during his third deployment to the Middle East and 24th mission to a combat zone.

Wirtz achieved his dream of joining the U.S. Navy, graduating from Navy SEAL training (BUD/S Class 216) on April 24, 1998. He served with SEAL Team 5, specializing as a sniper, and completed multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, the Philippines, and South Korea. After leaving the Navy in 2005, Scott transitioned to military security contracting before joining the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in 2017. In his role as an operations support specialist, Scott oversaw human intelligence collection operations, deploying to the Middle East three times. He earned several awards during his military and civilian careers, including the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, and the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Global War on Terrorism.

Scott’s legacy as a dedicated servicemember and patriot endures through his remarkable contributions to the U.S. Navy and his work with the DIA.

We would also like to take a moment to recognize two outstanding new members of the Navy League St. Louis, CDR Rob Stuart and CDR Mike Schmid. Their golfing prowess shone brightly during the tournament, and we are excited to have them as part of our growing community.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and supported this event. Scotty’s legacy lives on through events like these, reminding us of the courage and dedication of those who serve our country.
