Hampton Roads Navy League Honors Sea Service Ombudsmen

On September 18, the Navy League of the United States Hampton Roads Council hosted its annual Ombudsman Recognition Dinner at The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, celebrating the vital role Navy Ombudsmen play in strengthening and supporting sea service families.

The evening began with the Presentation of Colors by the Top Hatters Squadron, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, setting a respectful and celebratory tone for the night.

More than 400 guests were in attendance, including 80 Command Ombudsmen, over 70 commands, and many command triads, shipmates, and family members. The dinner served as a tribute to the Ombudsmen’s unwavering service and the critical support they provide to Navy families around the world.

Vice Admiral John Gumbleton, Acting Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, delivered remarks recognizing the dedication, resilience, and impact of the Ombudsman community. The council was also honored to welcome Mary Stork, Senior Vice President at USAA, who offered her thanks and encouragement to these extraordinary volunteers.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of USAA and Navy Mutual, whose generous sponsorships reflect their shared commitment to the well-being of Navy families.

In addition to recognizing service, the council collected non-perishable food donations for the Patriot’s Pantry at the Armed Services YMCA Hampton Roads, further demonstrating the spirit of community and care that defines this event.

To all our Ombudsmen—thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and quiet leadership continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of our sea service families. We are proud to honor your service.
