Minnesota Council Continues Outreach North for Positive Impact

By Brett Davis

The Minnesota Council’s Outreach North is making a very positive impact in the community.

While drive-by birthday salutes are on the decline, due to eased COVID restrictions, Outreach North continues to receive requests for birthday greetings for isolated veterans. The council has visited dozens of veterans, bringing birthday greetings, including Iver Anderson, a World War II vet who celebrated his 99th birthday on Sept. 9.

Outreach delivers flowers to encourage veterans going through health issues and continues to bring needed items to veterans’ homes, hospitals and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (who assists homeless veterans).

Outreach has been visible in parades every weekend throughout the spring and summer, informing the public about the Navy League of the United States and how to become a member. The Inver Grove Heights Days Parade, the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Parade, the Stars and Strips Parade at the Fergus Falls Veteran’s Home, the Lakeville Parade, Woodbury Days Parade, Columbus Heights Parade, Flekkefest Norwegian Festival Parade in Elbow Lake, Evansville Parade, Edina Parade, St. Louis Park Parktacular Parade and Ashby Appreciation Days Parade are just a few of the many parades in which Outreach has participated. Many more parades are planned for this fall.

In addition, Outreach North has contacted numerous galleries to display the artwork of the USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (LCS-21).
