Advancements in Artificial Intelligence and Its Role in the Navy of Today and Tomorrow

Nov. 16, 3 p.m. ET

CNO Adm. Mike Gilday’s Navigation Plan makes advances in artificial intelligence (AI) central to achieving decision superiority in combat. But many balk at the mention of AI in the battlespace, fearing that ubiquitous surveillance, invasive technologies and non-human trigger-pullers pose too high a risk. But legacy technology is often challenging to maintain, hard to upgrade and hard to inject new capabilities. With the development of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence in 2019, change is here.

The U.S. Navy has opened the door to upgrades and new AI capabilities to improve process efficiency, create better decision-making, increase worker productivity, and enhanced products and services. With the new norm of our virtual workplace, Navy leadership can use AI to run many components remotely and with digital solutions. A large area AI is impacting is data.

AI will be increasingly leveraged to normalize data from different platforms. AI has the ability to automate pattern recognition in large amounts of data and can often produce faster, cheaper, and more accurate results than traditional statistical techniques. AI is already showing its value in making processes more efficient and is likely to do so even more over time.

This one-on-one in-depth discussion will discuss the role of AI, the impact AI is having on the Navy and how AI can continue to improve Navy outcomes in the future.
