Navy League Foundation Announces 2025 Scholarship Awardees

The Navy League Foundation, the Navy League’s premier program to support education for children of the men and women of the sea services through academic scholarships, is proud to announce its 2025 scholarship award recipients. These exceptional students come from sea service families and have demonstrated remarkable academic achievement, leadership, and service to their communities.

Each scholarship helps the children and grandchildren of U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine service members pursue their college education and build on their family’s legacy of service. Planning Systems Incorporated & Engineering Scholarship

Recipient: Nevin McVicar 

Nevin is the grandson of Herbert Lee Mansbridge, who served in the Navy Seabees, Naval Construction Battalion #11 during the Vietnam War. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Nevin grew up in the Detroit area and now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he recently graduated from Pioneer High School.
Nevin was enrolled in a rigorous course load, including AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP Literature and Composition, AP Language and Composition, and AP Economics.

He maintained a 3.97 GPA and has a strong academic interest in media, communication, and visual storytelling. From a young age, Nevin has been passionate about filmmaking and storytelling. His love for media also extends into his church community, where he serves as the Media Director, using his technical skills to support worship and outreach. Outside the classroom, Nevin is actively involved in varsity football and basketball and serves in a leadership role on the Servant Team of his youth group.

His hard work and dedication have led to several notable honors, including the Southeastern Conference Sportsmanship Award, given to just one football player annually who demonstrates leadership, integrity, dedication to teamwork, and respect both on and off the field. He also earned the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete Award for maintaining academic excellence while participating in varsity football. Nevin is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

Looking toward the future, Nevin plans to pursue a degree in Media and Cinema Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the fall of 2025. He is eager to continue learning and growing in the world of film and media and will be interning with the Fighting Illini Productions Team, gaining hands-on experience in sports media production. Nevin aspires to build a career in the film and media industry as a director, producer, or sports media professional, creating meaningful content that uplifts others,
amplifies underrepresented voices, and inspires a more connected and compassionate world.

Collins Aerospace Scholarship

Recipient: Micah Brewer II

Micah is the son of Micah Brewer who served in the United States Navy as a Commander. Micah is currently a senior at Andrada Polytechnic High School, where he is known for his leadership positions in clubs like SkillsUSA Digital Media and Fellowship of Christian Students, as well as his outstanding academics with a GPA of 4.9 with advanced classes.

Born in Rockwall Texas, and raised all over the States, Micah has always been passionate about volunteering for the Church. He is also deeply committed to serving people when opportunities arise.
Micah is enrolled in a rigorous course load, including Dual enrollment Engineering with the University of Arizona, AP Calculus, College American Government, and maintains a GPA of 4.9. He is particularly interested in Engineering and STEM courses.

Outside of the classroom, Micah is actively involved in SkillsUSA Digital Media and Fellowship of Christian Students and has held the leadership positions of Vice President in both clubs. His hard work and dedication have resulted in several notable achievements, including maintaining straight a’s, competing at regional and state photography competitions, and scoring high on AP and CLEP tests. He is particularly proud of achieving High Honor Roll every semester of high school. Looking towards the future, Micah plans to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Lubbock Christian University in the Fall of 2024. He is excited to continue learning and exploring opportunities in engineering.

Micah plans to finish undergraduate school and go on to get a masters in Mechanical Engineering, and then enter the field in small product design. He is excited to continue exploring today’s problems and opportunities and hopes to make a positive impact by creating innovative solutions to these problems and make the world a better place.

Women’s Council Scholarship

Recipient: Isabella C. Fratto

Isabella is the daughter of Joseph A. Fratto who serves in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer. Isabella is currently a senior at Kamiak High School, where she is known for her involvement in the Kamiak Theatre Department, Academic Coaching, National Honor Society and Kamiak’s Crochet Club. Born in Edmonds, Washington, Isabella has always been passionate about STEM, with math, physics, and chemistry being among her favourite classes. She is also deeply committed to providing academic help for all and creating clean, safe spaces for students on campus.

Isabella is enrolled in a rigorous course load, including calculus, engineering physics, and engineering graphics, and maintains a 3.8 GPA. She is particularly interested in the aerospace industry and the future of space travel.

Outside of the classroom, Isabella is actively involved in National Honor Society and Academic Coaching, and has held a leadership position in the Crochet Club. Her hard work and dedication have resulted in several notable achievements, including honor roll and distinction as a Commended National Merit Scholar. She is particularly proud of earning an Associate of Science Degree from Edmonds College alongside her high school diploma.

Looking towards the future, Isabella plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at University of Victoria in the Fall of 2024. She is excited to continue learning and exploring opportunities in astronautics. Isabella plans to work as an aerospace engineer designing spacecraft. She is excited to continue exploring astronautics and hopes to make a positive impact in the aerospace industry as a woman of color.

Subic Bay–Cubi Point Scholarship

Recipient: Megan Johnston

Megan is the granddaughter of Gary Edward Johnston, who served in the Navy for 21 years in Explosive Ordinance Disposal. His retirement rank was CWO2. Megan just graduated from Omaha Christian Academy where she was a four-sport athlete in Cross Country, Basketball, Track, and Cheerleading during all four years of high school. She served as captain on her Cross Country and Basketball teams for her Junior and Senior year. She was selected as an All-American Cheerleader for her senior year and was able to cheer in the New Year’s Day parade in Rome, Italy! She has also participated Drama and Speech.

Megan was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Megan has always been passionate about her homemade jewelry business, which she sells at Farmer’s Markets. She also enjoys making dazzle art and running. Megan is committed to her church and regularly completes service projects with her church’s Missions Team. She has also served on mission trips with her youth group in Chicago, Miami, and the Dominican Republic.

Megan took a rigorous course load during her Senior year, including Honor’s Anatomy and Physiology, English, History, and Logic. She maintained a 4.2 GPA for her Senior year and earned a cumulative 3.9 GPA during high school. Megan has been actively involved in National Honor Society since her sophomore year and has served as a Teacher’s Assistant for her Junior and Senior year. She was a mentor for a first-grade student during Senior year.

Megan’s hard work and dedication have resulted in several notable achievements, including receiving Academic All-State for demonstrating team leadership and maintaining a GPA of at least a 3.7. She earned this honor for Cross-Country in 2021 and 2022, Basketball in 2023, and for Track in 2024 and 2025. Megan is also very proud that she earned Academic Letters during her Freshman and Senior years, for earning a GPA of at least 3.85.

Looking towards the future, Megan plans to pursue a dual degree in Biology/Nursing at York University starting in the Fall of 2025. Megan plans a career in nursing but is also considering medical school. She is excited to continue running Cross Country and Track at York University and hopes to make a positive impact in the medical field as a nurse or doctor.

RADM William A. Sullivan, USN (Ret) Scholarship

Recipient: Michael Smith

Michael is the grandson of the late CPT Michael J. Smith, a US Navy fighter pilot during the Vietnam War who later served as a NASA space shuttle pilot. He is also the grandson of the late Lawrence M. Rowe, a US Marine Corps Sergeant during the Korean War who went on to work as an electrical engineer for NASA on both the Apollo and Space Shuttle Programs.

Born and raised in San Diego, Mike has always been passionate about reading, sports, and science. He recently graduated from Francis Parker School, where he was known for being a key figure in the boy’s volleyball program. During high school, he completed a rigorous course load, including AP Calculus BC and AP Physics C – Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and earned a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.6. Mike was also a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Mike was deeply committed as an active volunteer with Feeding San Diego and Autism Tree.

In his senior year, Mike served as captain of the indoor volleyball team and is especially proud of helping lead the Francis Parker team to the Open Division semi-finals and a championship win at the Kamehameha Hawaii Boys Volleyball Invitational. Mike was ranked among the top beach volleyball players in California. His hard work and dedication earned him several honors, including MVP Award in beach volleyball (junior year), SoCal Cup Showcase All Tournament Team (junior year), and MVP Award in indoor volleyball (senior year).

Looking towards the future, Mike plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at Penn State University beginning in the fall of 2025. He is eager to continue learning and exploring engineering in a collegiate environment, and he plans to eventually start his own firm. Mike remains committed to his interests in science, music, and sports, and he aims to make a positive impact in the field of engineering to help make the world a better place.
