Sarasota-Manatee Council

Here are a few updates from our Spotlight Council of the Month, the Sarasota-Manatee Council.

The Sarasota-Manatee faced a year of challenges and triumphs in 2024. Hurricanes Helene and Milton tested the resilience of the community, but members came together with strength and solidarity to support Coast Guard personnel and recovery efforts. Key milestones included the adoption of a grant-funded software platform, enhancing the council’s ability to identify and secure new funding opportunities. Active participation in local events further amplified the council’s mission, while nine youth groups embraced the school year with enthusiasm, welcoming new members and engaging in dynamic activities.

On Dec. 19, Sarasota-Manatee Council Vice President Lorna Ow-Elroy and Secretary Jerry St. Germain presented Navy League awards to the USCGC Resolute’s past three Sailors of the Quarter during a ceremony on the flight deck. The council also celebrated several other sailors who achieved designation certificates, promotions, and medals, highlighting the outstanding dedication and achievements of the crew.

Bravo Zulu to the council for an incredible month and year serving their local sea service members!
