Tampa Bay Honors the Brave Souls of Cutter Blackthorne, Expands Coast Guard Support

On Jan. 28, members of the Tampa Bay Council joined their community in honoring the lives lost aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorne. Forty-six years ago, Blackthorn capsized and sank after colliding with tanker SS Capricorn near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Each year, the council donates a wreath and stands in solemn remembrance, offering their deepest condolences to the families who faithfully return to this sacred ceremony. You are never forgotten.

Earlier that month, the council had the honor of attending the Salute to the Coast Guard Dinner, celebrating extraordinary service and recognizing awardees who went above and beyond in 2025. There, Tampa Bay Council President Jennifer Anderson shared the council’s vision of expanding support for the Coast Guard through greater investments, stronger partnerships and every resource we can offer. Bravo Zulu! View more photos here.
