In preparation for the commissioning of the new USS Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Council kicked off the USS Pittsburgh Legacy Series at the Fort Pitt Museum on March 19. The series is part of the council’s efforts to spark interest within the community and provide updates to those invested in the ship’s progress.
Captain Polly Bozdech-Veater (Ret.), chair of the USS Pittsburgh Commissioning Committee, welcomed fellow speakers Captain Matt Tardy, USN, who oversees the construction of the USS Pittsburgh (LPD-31), Mrs. Nancy Dettmer, sponsor of the USS Pittsburgh (LPD-31), and CAPT Jason Deichler, USN, the last commanding officer of the previous USS Pittsburgh (SSN-720).
