Cape Canaveral Council Celebrates Navy’s 250th Birthday

The Cape Canaveral Navy League proudly celebrated the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Navy with a special evening event honoring past and present service members. The celebration brought together Navy League members, industry partners, community leaders, and cadets in recognition of the Navy’s historic milestone.

The Courageous Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps opened the event with an outstanding presentation of the Colors. The program began with a video message from Congressman Mike Haridopolos, followed by a commemorative video from the Chief of Naval Operations reflecting on the Navy’s legacy and future.

Representatives from Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, KMS Solutions, Kel-Tec, SaaS & Co., and Congressman Haridopolos’ office were among those in attendance.

The Council presented Heather Owen, Commanding Officer of Courageous Division, with a $2,700 donation to support the unit and awarded her the Scroll of Honor for her outstanding leadership and dedication to youth development.

CAPT Jason Schneider, USN (Ret.) provided a compelling historical overview of the Navy, connecting the service’s past to its continued role in global security.

Guests enjoyed door prizes, raffles, and a silent auction featuring items generously donated by local businesses. The evening served not only as a tribute to 250 years of naval service, but also as a reflection of the strong community support for the sea services in the Cape Canaveral area.
