Sasebo Navy League Council Extends Warm Welcome to U.S.S. San Diego and Its Crew

Sasebo, Japan Council, Navy League of the United States

The Navy League of the United States, Sasebo, Japan Council, warmly welcomed the U.S.S. San Diego (LPD 22) and its crew and families to Sasebo, Japan on September 19th. The Council is committed to supporting all those associated with the ship in any way possible.

The U.S.S. San Diego is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship assigned to the U.S. 7th Fleet in the Indo-Pacific region. Commissioned on May 19, 2012, it plays a key role in supporting U.S. Marine Corps operations and can deploy Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) vehicles for amphibious assaults, humanitarian missions, and disaster relief.

Upon the ship’s arrival, various local organizations, including the Branch Health Clinic, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Navy Exchange, U.S.O., and more, gathered to welcome the crew with food, drinks, and support. The excitement was clear as the crew reunited with loved ones and prepared to explore Japan’s vibrant culture after their month-long transit across the Pacific.

Welcome aboard, U.S.S. San Diego!
